What Does Your Bag Say About You?
When you see a woman walking down the street or hanging out in the food court, what about her handbag do you notice? Do you see her wallet or her lipstick or her stack of old receipts? Probably not.
You see the material of the bag and the items on the outside- pockets, buckles, zippers, straps, and the handles.
Some people make their designer handbags their number one accessory for their outfits. Others carry a handbag as a statement of who they are. And some pick the style of their handbag to handle the demands of their daily lives. And others are able to mix all three of those options into their perfect handbag.
I prefer to keep a daily bag that will go with anything. This usually involves solid colors with accent trim, and few exterior extras. I want my pockets on the inside of the bag.
But that doesn’t mean I am not excited by patterns and shiny buckles. I see potential for the bling to add pop to my outfit for that special occasion or adventure. However, when it comes down to it, I know my handbag is going to be a workhorse. I like the classic look of leather or the classic signature prints like Coach or Gucci.
Think about the statement your handbag will make when you carry it and it will make your decision that much easier to make.
Caring For Your Designer Handbag
Caring for your designer handbag starts with what you put in it. It can be a real downer to buy a new handbag and then have it get messy or destroyed because of the contents.
I recommend containing potential messy items- lipsticks, chapsticks, and lip gloss. Cute holders are available for these items (some with mirrors included) so in case a meltdown happens, the mess is contained and doesn’t ruin the bag.
I once had an accident with a compact of powder. The resulting mess never made my handbag the same. Everything in my purse from that day on had a dusting of talcum. I recommend bags to put the compact in. Again, the mess would be contained should the powder break and explode.
Pens are a nemesis to liners, especially the clicky top kind that might accidentally leave the tip out and ready to mark on anything and everything. Keeping your bag organized to have your pens in a side pocket or their own clutch will help keep the interior of your bag as clean as the outside.
When purchasing your designer bag make sure you find out
what the cleaning instructions are for exterior spills and stains. Will you be
able to clean off that salsa drip from the exterior of your Louis Vuitton bag?
Knowing your ability to clean the exterior will help you know how careful you
need to be with the exterior.
